Brocken

“Brocken” is the German word for a boulder.
During the division of Germany the Brocken was a high security military zone and used as a spying post by the Soviets and the Stasi.

The Brocken peak has 300 foggy days a year, last time we were there (October 2006) the visibility was less than 50 metres with winds about 140 km/h – it was quite the adventure!

In German the flower is called “Fingerhut”, which means thimble.
