What Kind of Music?

What Kind of Music?

Every time I see birds on wires I think of musical notation. And I wonder… if you get enough birds – what kind of music would that be? 馃槈

Stealer of Sleep

After years of listening to these guys I finally managed to see one!

Stealer of Sleep

I was surprised how much the dots on the breast show. All the photos and drawings I saw led me to believe it would be much more subdued.

Construction

Construction

There’s a second pair of house martins in the carport, building a nest from start. At this point it’s probably too optimistic to hope for more, but maybe next year we’ll get a proper colony.

Pleasant Surprise

Pleasant Surprise

It becomes more common for individuals, municipalities and districts to work against the decline in insect populations. In Paderborn I thought they did a really good job at making that visible for the public. They even sowed wild meadows and advertise for a seed package in public parcs called “Paderborner Wildblumenmischung” (link in German). Around here I “only” noticed an increase in flowers at the border of fields and insect hotels on public land.

Jakob Falco Peregrinus

Jakob Falco Peregrinus

There’s a livestream on YouTube I’ve been following even before the first egg was laid (3 eggs in total, 2 didn’t hatch). Got to see the young one on location last week. It’s not yet known whether it’s a boy or a girl, but Jakob Falco Peregrinus is the official name of the bird. It’s been adopted and named by the “Freundeskreis der Jakobuspilger Hermandad Santiago e.V.” (an association of pilgrims and friends).

The bird was grooming itself and then flew away. I had hoped to see it dive. No luck.

APAW 24/52 – Here I stand

APAW 24/52 - Here I stand

We’ve been away for a few days, a trip that initially was planned (before the travel restrictions) for a weekend in April. Something (or rather someone) went wrong when I tried to connect to the hotel wifi and I decided not to fuss and take an online vacation as well.
If you’re curious what I was watching in this photo, come back tomorrow.

I love the smell of sun-warmed chamomile at the edge of fields. I hate chamomile tea. Reminds me of being sick as a child.
