What Kind of Music?

What Kind of Music?

Every time I see birds on wires I think of musical notation. And I wonder… if you get enough birds – what kind of music would that be? 😉

Stealer of Sleep

After years of listening to these guys I finally managed to see one!

Stealer of Sleep

I was surprised how much the dots on the breast show. All the photos and drawings I saw led me to believe it would be much more subdued.

Construction

Construction

There’s a second pair of house martins in the carport, building a nest from start. At this point it’s probably too optimistic to hope for more, but maybe next year we’ll get a proper colony.

Meet the new neighbour!

They are working to adapt the nest. The dark layer is where the barn swallows did repairs in April.

The Squatters Moved In

I’ve written about the barn swallow nest in the carport before. I had seen the swallows repairing the nest at the end of April and even saw one sitting on it, but at one point they just abandoned it, from the beginning of May onwards there were no barn swallows to be seen around the carport.

When I returned from nightshift this morning, I got a pleasant surprise – there was a house martin sitting on the nest! I knew they were breeding on a neighbouring farm, but for us it’s a farm first.

I only had my mobile phone, but I’ll try to get better pics in the days to come. So excited!

They Just Keep coming!

Seems like birding from my living room window (which I mostly do during the winter) might be enough. Man, do I feel old writing that…

They Just Keep coming!

Black redstarts are a common sight during spring and summer, but this common redstart is not only a farm-first, but a lifer as well. Yay!

I just can’t make up my mind about this bird. Every time I think I know what it is, I find some little thing that doesn’t seem to fit. Any ideas?
Can’t ID by voice, the robin in the bushes next to me was too loud…

The location was halfway up a wooded mine dump, next to a river.

Gefunden auf einer bewaldeten Abraumhalde neben einem Fluss.

Let Me Look at You

Let Me Look at You

I was actually watching deer when the wagtail decided to keep me company for a few minutes.
