Me Time

Me Time

Last week I was in Hamburg for a week of rehab for my back and most of the days we only got out at sundown… On Friday I managed to spend an hour at the local nature reserve all by myself. It felt too much like autumn, I would have preferred the wintry conditions of 2016 or the fog of 2018, but it was still a lovely walk.

APAW 52/52

APAW 52/52

Sorry for being mostly absent the last few weeks. I had a lot going on and didn’t feel like blogging after the marathons in October and during our vacation.

This is the last APAW in 2019. I haven’t decided on 2020 yet, so let’s all see what I come up with for next Sunday. 😉

The Romans… And Vauban. Again.

The Romans... And Vauban. Again.

It`s a castle defending the sea entrance to Brest… of course Vauban had to build there. But the oldest remains date to Roman times and it is speculated that even before that there might have been fortifications of some sort.

It’s a bit curious, but in all the years we’ve been coming to the region we never actually properly visited Brest. We drove through on several occassions and lost our way there once. And there is a lovely arts and crafts shop called ArtĂŠĂŻs, which I have to visit every time we’re close.

So today was the day – we did the touristy thing. Or at least tried to. We walked along the harbour, looked at the castle and the Tour Tanguy, walked the Pont de Recouvrance and Rue de Siam, managed to find ourselves a fabulous book shop (one whole shelf full of ornithology books, too bad my French is not good enough) and ultimately got bored. I’m sure Brest has more lovely corners – we didn’t find them. So, that’s that…
