To the Antarctic and Back Again

To the Antarctic and Back Again

If you didn’t already know, go read the linked Wikipedia article (either language) to learn about the amazing migration of Artic Terns.

This Reminds Me…

This Reminds Me...

The countryside around Egilsstaðir reminded me so much of the Alps it wasn’t even funny.

Invader

Invader

As I understand it lupins were planted in Iceland to halt soil erosion. Now they’ve taken over the country. 😉

Finally…

Finally...

I’ve seen a lot of amazing birds on our trip (more than I hoped for), but this one was all everybody else seemed to care about… Yes, they’re cute, yes, they’re funny, but in the end I didn’t care as much about them as I thought.
Maybe because this cropped photo is one of the best looks I got. The one time we (supposedly) got closer, both the Dearest and I were unavoidably detained elsewhere. Not our fault.

Und noch eine Anmerkung für meine deutschen nicht-vogelguckenden Leser: der Vogel heisst Papageitaucher, nicht Papagei-en-taucher!

June 2017, Atlantic Puffin / Papageitaucher, somewhere in the South East of Iceland
