Hiding in the Bushes

Quick little thing, wasn’t easy to even get a look at. I’ve had about 40 photos with bushes and a hint of tail feathers. 😉

The Romans… And Vauban. Again.

The Romans... And Vauban. Again.

It`s a castle defending the sea entrance to Brest… of course Vauban had to build there. But the oldest remains date to Roman times and it is speculated that even before that there might have been fortifications of some sort.

It’s a bit curious, but in all the years we’ve been coming to the region we never actually properly visited Brest. We drove through on several occassions and lost our way there once. And there is a lovely arts and crafts shop called Artéïs, which I have to visit every time we’re close.

So today was the day – we did the touristy thing. Or at least tried to. We walked along the harbour, looked at the castle and the Tour Tanguy, walked the Pont de Recouvrance and Rue de Siam, managed to find ourselves a fabulous book shop (one whole shelf full of ornithology books, too bad my French is not good enough) and ultimately got bored. I’m sure Brest has more lovely corners – we didn’t find them. So, that’s that…
